Council Meeting Canceled & National Night Out

City Council has canceled their regularly scheduled council meeting for October 3, 2023. In celebration of National Night Out, they are encouraging neighborhoods to participate and will spend time with their respective neighborhoods in celebration.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

From the NNO website:

“National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.”

National Night Out

Starting in 1984, the National Night Out has been traditionally held the first Tuesday in August across the nation. In 2008, the state of Texas unofficially adopted the first Tuesday in October to allow typically a cooler and pleasant evening to host the festivities. Most of the neighborhoods in Forney are planning something, and your local social media group or HOA may be able to provide you with more information. The weather is currently projected to be in the 70s to 90s and mostly sunny for the day.
